MY PERSONAL YICHUS (written by Libby Warren)

For me, it began when I was a teenager, during the 1970s, sitting at my parents' Shabbos table. Oftentimes, my father would come home from shul and relate exciting stories about our sages. I would listen, facinated by our historic past.

It was during one such Shabbos meal that my father presented the story of the Noda B'Yehuda. I was suddenly transported back in time to cobblestone streets, winding roads, secret alleyways, and everything one imagines when thinking of 18th century Prague.

As I sat at the table, I wondered what it would be like to travel to Prague and walk the very streets that my ancestor had walked upon so long ago. My wish to actually experience that spriritual feeling became so strong, that right then I promised myself that someday I would travel to Prague.

In 1993, it was my good fortune to join hundreds of fellow descendants of the Noda B'Yehuda and travel to Prague to commemmorate the 200th Yarzeit of the Noda B'Yehuda. I brought a photocopy of my original family yichus brief with me hoping that it would lead to new information. The details of the yichus brief are presented here on this page.

If you have any information regarding the Landau or Diller families from the towns of Dynow (Dinov) or Sanok located in Poland, or the Rappaport family who were related to R' Chaim Hacohen Rappaport of Lvov, please click on the CONTACT button above  to leave a message.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE INFORMATION STATED BELOW HAS BEEN TRANSLATED FROM THE GERMAN LANGUAGE, AND IS NOT COMPLETE. GRAMMATICAL CORRECTIONS AS WELL AS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WILL BE ADDED SHORTLY. THANK YOU.

CREDIT:
A tremendous yasher koach to my dearest aunt Poly for her inquisitiveness and foresight as a young girl, and for her current interest in reviewing the details of our yichus with me. In 1941, upon her request, her father (my grandfather) R' Asher Lemel Landau dictated the yichus of our family tree to her. 61 years later, that fragile sheet of paper has become the family's yichus brief. Although the lineage is known to us, this valuable paper relates precise details including names of extended family members we would not have known of otherwise. All the information contained therein has been translated and inserted onto this page
